Hi Guys;

(*PICS ADDED BELOW)

I have a Winchester 1894 (ser 5493XX) in 25-35 WCF. I believe it is a Saddle Ring Carbine - has 20" barrel that has not been cut down and full length magazine. There is an old minor repair of the stock that I think just adds character. There is a Lyman receiver site installed, with a little flip lever to allow for elevation adjustment (pretty practical little sight for its time!). Wear on the site is consistent with receiver wear, so I believe it is period installed on the gun. Works good, not alot of bluing left and the action is tight. Any idea of the value range for a gun like this? I believe I am going to sell it, but don't know what to ask.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Tough to say how much it is really worth. In the US it would be worth more due to the boundless enthusiasm of Winchester collectors. But as described the gun is worth about (guess) 350.00 to 400.00 as the .25-35 chambering will add bonus value. I would be interested but I would hunt the gun as I am not a collector.
cheers Darryl

You says it's a reciever site? not a tang, so it has been D&T'd which probably means nothing because in that shape, repaired stock, little blueing, it's nothing more than a hunting gun. Being a 25-35 does help the value considerable but I'd guess $350-400. would be a fair price on it.

Price of a 95 has nothing to do with a 94 price they are totally diff guns:rolleyes:

Just for interest sake, here are some photos. As you can see, the saddle ring and stud have been removed, presumably to facilitate better access to the elevation adjustment. In the process of obtaining a replacement for this - an original, not a reproduction. Lyman sight appears to be installed using factory holes, but could be wrong about this. Still, an interesting little sight. By the way, my Madis book shows this rifle as being circa 1910 mfg.

Now that I see the pics:) it's easier to understand exactly what you were describing:)
I stand by my earlier gun value, but with that reciever sight on the gun, I would add $100 value! The site might be worth more than that, but if you take it off the gun, the gun value will decrease. I believe some of the holes had to be drilled to accept those sites.

All in all she's a pretty nice old girl, I'd keep it if I were you:)

Yep, it's a #38 Lyman sight, you've gotta drill it to fit.

They go for around $250 +- U.S., so ya, it's almost worth as much as the gun but taking it off will reduce it's value.
