What is an acceptable accuracy for a Norinco m 305 ?

I know where a Norinco m 305 is for sale. I was told by its owner that he was getting 4 to 5 inch groups at 100 yards, using a scope. The fellow has mainly been using the rifle in three gun competitions; using only its iron sights. The stock was replaced with a fiberglass USGI, the bolt was also replaced with a USGI and the sights were also replaced. He hasn't fired the rifle all that much with a scope. I have no clue what type of scope base he is using.

So what do you fellow find acceptable? Any info would be appreciated.

I tried some Federal gold metal match through my bone stock Norinco M14 (with the exception of a Rooster 33 spring guide) It gave me a 2.5"/10 round group with irons/100m/prone-supported.
The Federal match ammo seams to run well in just about anything, the M14 being no exception.
4-5" groups are decent, but I would suspect this was with decent surplus or cheaper commercial ammunition-you may want to get that clarified.

I can get all shots in a 4 inch group off a bench at 100yds with the
cheap Portugese ammo. I mean all shots 20 in a row etc. This with iron
sights. It's a real "fun" gun!

I get 4-5 inchs with portugese ammo too but im a poor shooter and my gas cylinder need to be shimmed.

I got a few tweak on it tought, NM op rod guide,USGI spring and a USGI bolt.

The fellow seem to mention having bought his ammo from a dealer that went out of business in New Brunswick. I have an idea that his rifle is probably capable of better groups; but I will inform myself of what type of ammo or scope base he is using. I'm suppose to meet him soon to try it at the range and shoot it with his ammo.

I may take a side trip to the local Walmart for some commercial ammo. Of all the commercial ammos; what would be the closest substitute for this rifle to show me what its capable of? I will probably buy some 150 to 168 grain to try it out. My selection my be limited to what I can find at a Walmart or a Canadian Tire. :|

2.5" using Norinco ammo,arms#18mount and #22 rings.

Scope is a Marstar 3-9 x 40,Rooster 33 oprod spring guide and USGI fibreglass stock.

It is a fun plinker.

The M305's I have tuned and worked up loads for all shot MOA (a few better) but not over 1.5MOA. With surplus and box stock, that type of accuracy seems very plausible.

I can't vouch for all of these rifles but those I have worked on shot very well.

So it's not just me....

I get 4-5" at 100m with Federal FMJ. M305 with GI fibreglass stock, Madsen mount, Bushnell Trophy 4-24x40 AO.

I may sell it... 8)

you might try different ammo as well- some like remmy and some like winny- my best groups were remmy 180s until i found out it was hard on the rifle

I have had my M305 for a couple of months now; and for a gas-op battle rifle @ $399 I am pleased with it. Installed a bushy 3-9x40, 3200 and lace-on leather cheek piece, and shooting from my rest @ 100 yd, I am averaging around 4 inch groups with all of the following ammo:
IVI NATO
American Eagle 150 gr FMJ
Winchester 147 gr FMJ

For comparison, those same loads in my scoped Omark Sportco single shot tactical rifle off the rest gives me around 3 inch groups. My 308 handloads (168 gr Matchkings, 44 gr WW-748, Federal Match primers) gives me 1/2 inch groups from my Sportco. I wll run my 308 loads through the M305 and see what we get sometime.

Checked the targets from last weekend and both matchking's and moly Amax were giving me 1.455" @100yd's. I'm using a fiberglass stock and have a Smith Ent tactical muzzlebrake on the scoped unit. The brake is about 3 times the weight of the norc muzzleflash and seem's to have stopped the stringing out of the groups. The Rooster op rod guide should be here any day and will let you know what happens with handloads and IVI surplus. Didn't really pay attention to the 305 groups as I got a sub MOA group with handloads in my No1Mk3 that same day...Bob

GG&FB, not only do I think it helped the accuracy but the brake does reduce the felt recoil. Glad I've got it. Have only had the one range experience with it but hope to see how the surplus shoots this weekend with it...Bob
