Threading what? For a brake or the barrel shank?
Epp's charges $50 to thread a shank on a barrel blank. $100 to install a brake. Other smithies should be similar. Stock work starts at $65. Completely inletting a stock blank will not be cheap.

Depends on style of the brake, if it has to be indexed it'll cost more than if it's a simple thread on 360 deg port style

If you have a side port brake it needs to be indexed which all gun smiths I know charge extra, if it a brake with holes all the way around it such as a vias style it doesn't need to be indexed so it is just a matter of threading the barrel to fit the threads of the brake and maybe contouring it to the barrel

I have been told the same..

Very often the outside of a barrel is not concentric with the bore. Because of this a clamp on brake needs to have larger tolerances so the bullet has enough clearance when leaving the barrel and proceeding though the brake. Large tolerances make the brake less efficient and in some cases less accurate.

I have found the most accurate method of installing a brake is to set the barrel up in a 4 jaw chuck and dial the bore in to the nearest 10 thousands of an inch. Then thread the barrel for a close fit for the brake. Index the brake if the style requires it. With indexed brakes I Loctite them in place. Then the interior of the brake is bored for 20 thou bullet clearance. This is checked with a sliding stepped mandrel. The outside of the brake can also be tapered to match the barrel at this point. This method also eliminates any problems within the manufactured brake as far as alignment is concerned as well.

I think $100 to $125 is a fair labour charge to do the above work.

I think if all you want is a thread added to your barrel with no fitting it would be considerably less.

You can always use a shim kit or crush washer to index brakes that don't index with the current threading.

Loal shop chargers 400 to remove ur old barrel, thread/install/chamber the new one, and thread it for a muzzle.
