You might find that the .22-250 has an edge in performance, but the difference in trajectory is difficult to make use of in the field. From a viewpoint of cost, versatility, and accuracy the decision to handload will have a greater impact than the choice of one cartridge over the other.
If you want to shoot a lot go for the cheaper and more readily available less expensive 223.
Myself I just sold off all of my 223's but 1 and bought a new 22-250.
After spending the last month in Alberta and having shot 3 of about 12 coyotes that hung out around the in-laws place these coyotes would no longer respond to the call the only way to shoot them was to reach out and snipe them which didn't happen with only having the 223 along.
I have a self imposed 300 yard max range limit when using a 223 for coyote hunting but with either of my 22-250's I would have picked off them coyotes that stayed 450 + yards out from me.
They new I couldn't get out to them so up to 6 of them would lay out in the pasture 450 to 600 yards behind the house teasing me...
223 is cheaper to shoot no question but the 250 is quite abit stronger and the ammo is readily available for each!!
Personally i prefer the 22-250! Sure its a little more to shoot but the power difference is nice! IF your hunting for the fur then maybe the 223 is a better choice(less damage) but the 250 will knock em down hard!

you realize a 22-250 @ 450 yards is producing the same ballistics as a 223 @ 350 yards? With either cartridge you'll have 1.5-2 feet of drop at 450 assuming a 250y zero with 55 gr bullets. A 243 or 25-06 would be a better choice for stretching it out to 500 yards
My vote would be 223 for the best bang for the buck varmint cartridge
.223 for performance, availability and value. If you need something to go faster and further then skip the .22-250 and go directly to the .243 Winchester.
