No difference in how it functions. When talking about corrosive or non-corrosive it is the primer that is being discussed. Usually - > Sodium Petrochlorate (corrosive) and usually lead stypnate (non-corrosive)
Notice the word "Sodium" in the corrosive primer? That's the problem. You need to thoroughly clean your firearm after using corrosive ammunition or else the salt causes big problems.

Ahhh. And for 7.62x39mm ammo, is it that much more expensive to fire the non-corrosive?
Almost all of the corrosive ammo sold is surplus. Some military made it for their own use, just in case of war. After a number of years, they either change calibers (.303, 8x57 Mauser, 30-06, etc) or decide that it is more than XX years old, so rotate the stock. They sell it cheap.
The non-corosive is generally commercially made, and is more money.

I shot that corrosive sh1t out of my rifle when "someone" told me it was NON-corrosive... 2 days later and the gun was a mess!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!

Simple solution = ALWAYS clean your guns after a shoot. Only takes a couple minutes. Corrosive residue is water soluble, it's about the easiest stuff to clean. Couple (water) wet patches, a bore snake and a lightly oiled patch. Done. 5 minutes, and should keep you worry-free until you get a change for a more thorough cleaning.
Or a simple shot of wipeout, a dry patch and an oiled patch. Nearly zero effort
I've never understood the anxiety that corrosive primed ammo induces in shooters. I've shot thousands of rounds of it.
As has been said above, simple cleaning takes care of all the problems with it. If you're not sure it's corrosive, clean your rifle accordingly. Even if it's non-corrosive, cleaning your rifle after using it is just good sense anyhow.
