That's a percussion muff/boot pistol. They are fun little guns. Does the barrel screw off ? Value on those seems to be 200-400 for a really nice percussion one. Is there a makers name on it ?

Belgian Boot Pistol? Not a good plan to "dry fire", fairly easy to work on if the screw heads aren't bubba'd a pain if they are.
I have never seen an octagonal to round barrel before, nice little pistol.

I think it has to be Hex or Oct Bbl, there is a tong type tool to screw the bbl off. Got to be something other than round for the tool to gain purchase on.
IIRC the tool sometimes has a mold on it as well.
You get a really tight seal on the ball as the bbl has a slight taper breech to bore. Getting shot with one would probably end in you
