What is needed to builds an upper?

New thread. I'm new to ar's mine isn't even here yet but I would like a detailed parts list not manufacturer specific on what I need to build an upper at home. Maybe we can do another thread on lowers so us newbs can get involved and learn the nomenclature.

Off the top of my head to make an upper functional:
Upper receiver
Hand Guard (Free floating is my preference)
Barrel
Barrel nut
Gas tube of appropriate length
Gas Block and roll pin
Crush washer
Muzzle device
Bolt Carrier Group
Charging Handle
Sights of your choice

Forward assist and dust cover as well if your upper redeiver isnt complete

Also need toosl...vise blocks, ar wrench, punches, anti seize, locktite, torque wrench, barrel nut wrench adaptor,etc
