Never noticed a 'ping' when shooting my evil Winchester. Maybe an M305/M1A thing.
The first ping with a computer is it saying "Here I am." Not, "Are you there?"
If anybody tells you the bad guys knew when your M1 Rifle is empty by the PING!!!! of the clip ejecting, it's nonsense.

As always your head is up your ass. The M1A/M14 "ping" goes for the entire platform. The harmonics of a well tuned rifle cause the flash hider to ring out when the rifle is fired, or even the op rod slamming forward. Your Winchester must've been a little loose.

"Ping" Is the sound of the M1 Garand when you run out of ammo and it ejects the clip from the receiver.
