What is the best .177 out there

As tomjones said 13-18 or so by me but you're going to have to shoot a few to find what the gun likes. I've seen a few guns be pretty picky. Try em all and find your favorite.

All 17HMR irregardless of brand is manufactured in the same plant. You have two options 20g or 17g sst's. From my experience the 20's are a little better in the wind, but both are laser accurate up to 100 yards.
Once the 17WSM is available I think you'll see my 17HRM on the EE if the predicted prices are true.

17gr tnt, 17 gr vmax, 17gr sp, 20gr xtp, 15.5gr ntx there is a fmj as well. Those are all the ones for hmr I have seen. I had a savage but sold it and got a cz 452 the cz shoots groups about half the size of the savage. It is a pretty fun round to shoot. Ive shot gophers out past 200 yards with it. Its a little tricky in strong winds but doable.

P.s - The 17 cal rifles shoot a .172" projectile. Air guns shoot a .177"

I'm not understanding this.
I've got 3 different kinds here which seem to come from 3 different US locations. ???

They are all made by cci.

They may all be made by CCI, but even the loads using the 17gr v-max do have differences. Weighing the Hornady,Federal, and Winchester 17gr v-max loads, the Winchesters are consistently over 2 grains heavier, and they shoot differently in my rifle.

That's like saying that a Chevy cavalier and a Cadillac SRX are made by the same company. Technically, yes, but the specs and quality control are different. I always chuckle when people say that any two products with different labels are made by the same company. It may be true, but the question that must be asked is "are they made to the same specs?"

For the record... The worst shooting ammo in my savage. 17hmr was Remington at 2.5", winchester not far behind, and Hornady 20gr @<1", and cci 20gr @about 3/4".

I've not had much luck with Winchester...their ammo is a jamming mess in my Savage .17HMR, and the only two occasions I've pulled
the trigger on a centrefire hunting rifle and there was no powder in the cartridge...it was Winchester. Once it was target shooting, no
big deal, but the other time it was 25 yards away from a fat 5 point mule deer. I now only use Hornady 20 grain for my .17HMR,
Federal Accubonds for the .270, and Barnes Vortex for my 30.06.
