Hey all,

just picked up a Savage 20 ga. slug gun. I will be using it for deer only, and will most likely be shooting 3" out of it. What is the best slug out there in terms of ballistics and terminal performance?

They all shoot didferent out of every barrel. Buy a box of each and see of you can get 2" groups at 100 yards. Then sight in for the one that shoots the tightest.

Sabot shooting is far from cheap it's quite expensive but once you're sighted in with a good brand you should not have to change again.

Best ones I've heard on market are rem accutip. Hornady SST. Winchester gold.

I do not have a Savage but I know a guy that does and his like the Rem Accu Tips and maybe the Federal Barnes.

I shoot a H&R USH 20 gauge and it too likes the 3inch Accu Tips. I could easily shoot it 150 yards without hesitation. Shot a nice buck at 20 yards, straight thru took out the heart and destroyed the lungs. The AccuTips seem to be one round that most guys say shoot good.

The Hornady's were terrible, Winchesters were ok. Try different loads as mentioned, just don't let the wife know the price.

I tested with 2 3/4 and 3 inch if available in the Win's, Rem Accu tips, Rem Buckhammers, Hornady.
