I am considering an SKS and would like to know what the best bang for the buck is? I would prefer a chrome bore but if a yugo was a good deal I could live without it. I like the classic look of the wood stock and the fold down blade bayo. My guess would be a tossup between the norincos and the Yugos?
Any info would be appreciated. I want a shooter more than a collector.

All the online shops seem to be sold out of the Norinco SKS right now, even the ones mentioned in the "Where are they still selling the Norinco SKS" thread.

Thanks guys that is exactly what I wanted to know. How can I tell an early Norinco from a late one and what is the difference?
My guess for price would be 350 to 400$?

If I had the cash I could easily spend a grand on Norinco products.
The SKS , M305 and the trench shotgun and since I am wishing one of those .308 SVD clones you can't get in Canada or the US.

Main difference is quality.
Low serial numbers.

Later years (late 80s) can get really sloppy on fit and finish.
Mismatched numbers, wood, sloppy welds etc.

This site may help...

Yeah even my 80' model is not all that well made, but then I might just be pickey.

the welds are good, but the 1/2mm gap between the receiver and the stock is a bit annoying.

How about the brand new Norincos? A local gunstore here in PA Frontier Taxidermy has an order of SKS's from Norinco due in soon for 179$.
They are also a CGN supporter and also get in M305's for 100$ more than Marstar. Being able to get one brand new in my home town gun store is
tempting. Any opinions about the new Norincos would be much appreciated?

$179 for a new SKS
You can get a new one for $135 from marstar.

I just bought on to fool around with at the range. Lucky mine turned out to be in really good shape for a second hand SKS :D. I got all matching numbers, spike bayonet (doesnt bother me), and is fun as hell to shoot!!

Yah I was suprised at how nice yours was.
Very good fit and finish for a later built SKS.

We have to find you a cleaning kit for it.
Shame Marstar lets them fall out of the rifles before they sell them.

$350-400 is the price for a Yugo in great condition.

A Nork SKS with a blade bayonet is worth $20 more than a spike bayonet SKS (if that).

I wouldn't spend more than $200-225 for a Norinco SKS with a blade.

I paid 125 for mine new, what a POS. If you want a plinker get a rueger 10-22. Then again, it's really not the same. The novelty will wear off after a couple of cases of ammo. Just sold mine for $150.

Yah a 10/22 and about $700+ in mods thrown on it.
