Does it fall under a restricted handgun or restricted rifle, its design is obviously more rifle like but its very small and I'm not sure what the legal system considers it as. I hope its a handgun at 5 rounds of .38 doesn't sound terribly exciting.

On a side note, any mention of where I can pick one of these up in pretty much any condition, as long as its functioning well, would be appreciated.

This beauty is the CZ Skorpion which is prohib by name. However a dealer brought a few in as restricted (pistols). After this small number were brought into our country, the RCMP said no more never again. So there are a limited number of these around. However good luck finding one for sale.

I have come across two in the last bunch of years for sale.

Resticted.

Going for $1200 to $1500 I believe.

IF I knew then what I know now....................

Maybe if you put up a wtb ad in the ee you might have some luck Max Owner. The last one in the ee (frome Strangeday) I managed to snatch up but only by a slim stroke of luck. I paid $1400 for mine.

You just posted that to rub it in, didn't you..............!

Me? Never......
Seriously though, if you put a wtb ad up in the ee you might actually have some luck. You've seen two of them come up for sale in recent years, obviously someone out there was willing to sell theirs. Who knows, you might have some luck :)

so we're both right, only me more so

I've got one of these things and just love it! (Didn't think it's worth that much $$$ though...) It's not 'really' settled as to what it is. Is it a rifle? Is it a handgun? I USE mine as a handgun. As in: it actually shoots really accurately and I use it one-handed in bullseye pistol matches. Okay, not as great as my Walther GSP in .32 S&W, BUT the consternation and discussion it provokes is worth it!

The very first time I went to fire it, I thought "Oh, I must have 20 rd mags pinned to 10", but the .380 ACP ammo stopped going in at 5 rds. Which made me swear a bit. The FRT calls it "Commercial Version" instead of 'Handgun' or 'Rifle'. To my mind its a semi-auto version of a "machine pistol" and I'd argue that it's 'designed to be aimed & fired by the action of one hand' despite the dinky little wire stock. After all, originally Lugers, Mauser Broomhandles and Hi-Powers and probably some others were designed to be capable of being used with stocks too.

I took it to a "Military firearm" match in the fall. First I shot it in the pistol category course of fire on the handgun range (without the shoulder stock). Then just for fun I asked on the 100yd rifle range if I could shoot it (with the shoulder stock) in the rifle category. Unfortunately I was told that club wasn't allowed to shoot handguns on the 100yd rifle range.

So there you have it. It's odd little number that's Restricted. What it is depends on who you ask.

So really, you guys would pay over $1400 for one? Man that's pretty tempting, but I really love this thing. It shoots SO well.

Hmm, I've heard they they can fit Mac mags in some cases, are there any pistols in Canada that use Mac mags?

And I'm definitely saving up for one, its either this or a Type-97 as an exotic wierdo firearm. But to the sounds of things it'll be hard to find one.

I have my doubts that a Mac mag will fit.

How rare is it? Well the Ottawa citizen version of the registry says theres 69 of them in Canada as of November 7 2006.
