I am curious as to what kinds of 7.62x39mm ammo is availible in Canada?
All i see is that dammed horrible Czech surplus corrosive ####. Are there any non-corrosive manufacturers in Canada that are common?

Corrosive is the only way to go for cheap 7.62x39 shooting. Your non-corrosive options are as follows:

Norinco Yellow Box(I think).....all but gone in Canada
Remington UMC.......$11-$12 a box for 20 rounds
Winchester White Box Government Brand........$11-$12 a box
Winchester Hunting Ammo........$17-$20 a box
Load your own........$? compnents hard to fins in any kind of volume

Shoot lots, clean lots....for $168 plus tax for 1120 rounds from CanadaAmmo you cat loose. Hope this helps.

Just got a box of Czech surplus for $185 inluding tax GST and PST 14.5%.
Now that I know that we are dealing with KCl as the corrosive agent.. a cleaning solution with 3-5% Tannic acid and alcohol should do rather nicely in my new VZ58!
Tannic acid is used as an anti-oxidation product and is HIGHLY effective and is in use by the czech military and Canadian forces!

RE: tannic acid

http://www2.sandvik.com/sandvik/014.../HandbookWeb/355F3082B19AB5734125662E004B1FB2

Tannic acid will form ferric tannate, a black sunstance. Tannic acid is used to turn steel black in various "antiquing" processes. The resultant ferric tannate will form a barrier to furthur corrosion, as mentioned. If you want a black layer of ferric tannate in your bore, be my guest. I prefer to pour a kettle of boiling water in my bore, then oil.
BTW tannic acid is the reason tanned leather turns steel black.

Cheers,

I'm guessing here . . . is tannic acid the active ingredient in the "stop-rust" stuff that I use on small spots on my lawnmower deck? It chemically reacts with the existing corrosion and turns it all a solid black. It just remains grey and non-bonded on uncorroded areas. It does work well preventing further rust.

As so many have been saying about using the Czech ammo - boiling water to rinse it all out, then clean as usual. It's really that simple!

Maybe then it was alot of HOT air. sorry.. I had been told tannic acid could be used in a weak solution with water or some other solvent (isopropyl alcohol with water) or a 3% mix with teflon oil after hot water application to elimate any possible corrosion like an added security measure, this is why it is "supposedly" used on the ships and in military installations that are in contact with salt and other potential corrosives before any actual corrosion sets in.

-Yes dieseldog6 it is in that stuff you mentioned mixed with an oil based paint. But I guess the best thing to do would be to chrome the gas port on a VZ58? OR is this even possible or has that already done? :?: :( :?: :?:
nothing like water... you are quite right

yup.. forget tannic acid on no rusted guns... I gust got my Vz58-S (CZH2003) and I have to say water or isopropyl alcohol or a mix of both will do VERY well. The alcohol is a drying/evapouration agent..
The VZ58 is by far the easist semiauto to clean by far I have ever used!

wolf ammo is also noncorrosive and not to bad for price I think the last two cases I bought were 180-190/1000 shipped to my door not sure where to get it now though.

I can't shoot Wolf ammo in my Valmet M78 :(. It's got a pretty tight chamber, and the Wolf cases like to glue themselves in there when I any kind of rapid-firing, such as a tactical rifle match. I'm almost out of German and South African :(. Anyone got any for sale?

Hi

Importing ammo

My biggist pet piss off.

First off

PMC is Korean
PMP is South African
PPU is Yugoslavian

Wolf....They cross the border and get it. Is it legal...NO
Do they care ....NO
Do they tell US Customs when they leave the US.....NO
Does Canadian Customs care....NO... as long as you pay your GST and PST like a good citizen.

Wolf, PMP, PPU, S&B, I could go on. There are so many ammo companies out there that want to move their product. Does anybody bring this stuff into this country? NO

I keep hearing about how you have to give samples before you can bring surplus into the country. This IS NOT surplus. It's factory new.

So if an importer is reading this take note. Stop trying to sell me some new gun you have just brought in, (I don't want it) and instead get ammo.

Ah.. ok the box of my .223's is PMP.. ah no wonder I got mixed up.
So cross border shop till you drop :) sounds goo to me   Do they do duty free ?

Hi

I have shot both .223 and .308 from PMP

The 55 grn FMJ .223 worked fine in my armalite but was not as accurate as american made ammo. It was louder also.

.308 stuff made the action on my Mauser a bit stiff. My shooting buddies had similar results. Accuracy was as good as any other FMJ .308
