The SIG (USA, where our guns come from) website lists 9 models of 229:

Of these, the only ones I have seen (or seen advertised) in Canada are:
P229 (the base model, sometimes called P229R) in 9mm and .40S&W
P229 SAS, which is only offered in 40S&W (and only with DAK)
P229 Equinox, which is only offered in 40S&W (and only is DA/SA)
P229 Elite, in 9mm and .40S&W (only is DA/SA)
I have not heard of the base model being offered in DAK in Canada, but it might be out there. I also have not seen or heard of two-tone 229s in Canada, Stainless Elites, SCT, or Platinum Elite (which is brand new). I have also not seen or heard of .357SIG 229s in Canada yet, but they are probably coming at some point.
So, in 9mm, right now in Canada you have two choices - the standard P229R, or the P229 Elite.
Both guns have (1) stainless slides with Nitron finish; (2) alloy frames with Nitron finish; (3) all the same components except:
Elite has the SRT (short reset trigger), front cocking serations on the slide, 1911-style beaver tail, and wood grips. Other than that they are the same gun. Questar initially had P229 Elite's with custom (aftermarket) barrels. Elite's are now coming in with the same SIG manufactured barrels that the other models have.
I own a P229R in 9mm. It is the best 9mm I have ever fired, and in my humble opinion at least, it is the best 9mm pistol available in this country at this time and I would recommend it to anyone to any level of shooting experience. It is a truely superb pistol. I have not tried the 229 Eliteyet, but I really want one. Whether it is a little bit better than the standard model or whether the difference is basically cosmetic, I don't know. I can tell you though, that better than the P229R is sort of like improving upon a masterpiece of time-tested design and workmanship. Tough to do.

If I were you, I would forget about the EE and just buy a new one. They are such great guns, they are not going to come around in the EE very often - or for very long - and when they do the seller will ask for - and get - at least 90% of the new price anyway. The online places (Wolverine, Questar, maybe some others) are $100-$150 less than the local shops.
