Simple question but the answers may vary. What is the difference between a coach and an instructor?

As an aside, is there a coach certification?

I note in the UK, that the CPSA has different courses for training instructors vs coaches. It appears instructor is prerequisite to coach.

In my mind the difference may lie in continuity. Perhaps an instructor teaches - where a coach stays with a shooter over long term development?

In my mind, anyone can instruct once they've learned how or taken a course on the subject. They're just teaching basics and fundamentals whereas a coach is usually someone who has had experience in the field and has the ability to pass their experience on to fine tune technique... but that's just my interpretation.

I agree with Falconflyer: an instructor can usually impart knowledge or course material; a coach can find flaws in your execution or routine and help you correct them. How many times on a skeet field have you heard "You were behind" ? Those are instructor types, The ones who can say "the reason you were behind", or "you lifted your head because" are the coach types. Not all instructors can coach, but most coaches can also instruct .. at least in my experience.

To complete BJP answer - in relation with SFC and ISSF - instructor and coach are certified. Instructor teaches specifics( sight pictures - positions ect ) Coach follow athletes or group of athlete in training - preparation - during and after competitions. They offert support and guidance.
They put into practice what instructors teach initially but take it to develop advanced shooting skills to perform in competition.
Coaching is an ongoing commitment to the sport and shooters he take care of.

Simplified - if you take a course - it is an instructor.
