What is the point of a jeweled bolt?

I've been curious about this for awhile. What is the advantage of a jeweled bolt? The only explanation I have heard is it holds lubricants better. Is this true? Is this the reason for jeweling a bolt?

that is one of the reasons that i have been told. but that is probably just what people tell themselves to justify spending the extra $$$ for a jeweled bolt. it does look nice tho

same reason some guys put mag wheels on a car, it usually looks good.

It's especially effective if you have a rough, pitted bolt. The jewelling helps to hide the imperfections.

It was done so that the bolt would take and distribute oil better and not wash or wear off quickly. So I"ve been told!

Same effect on the fine double guns. All that fancy engraving holds the oil better so it won't get wiped off as easily.

And, yes, because it looks cool!
Easy to do to your own metal finish. You just need emory, lots of time, and a drill press.
