I acquired a uncut bbl sporter AP 1943 No. 4 Mk 1 or 2 in otherwise good shape.

Butt has had the "bump" rounded down, swivels are gone, butt plate still good, no scope or other holes in the metal (yay). The bolt matches the action number. Bore is quite good.

Im trying to decide if to restore or what.

What does the star stamp on the bbl with an arrow above it represent?

I have restored a couple Lees before but what is the availability of full wood and butts and bits these days? It appears from searching that they are getting hard to find and expensive?

Thanks

Ok, ok, if Jay wants me to jump in, I certainly will not want to disapoint him :)

I seem to remember the rust or pitting in chamber or bore too, but recently I saw a sporter with such a star on the action and the barrel was immaculate. Just to be sure, we're talking about the "*", not a five-point star? I'll search a bit and get back to this thread.

The arrow is supposedly a mark of the British empire and star from what I have been told, I don't know for sure is Austrailian issue.

Well from what I found, as I suspected, a "*" on the barrel at the knox usually means a minor defect in the bore - but it may have been corrected at some point? Smellie, where art thou?

Im working on closeup pics --by star I mean a five point star not an "*".
Bore looks quite good tho it was a bit dark from sitting in a closet for a long time.
