and which one stinks the less?

I am thinking of getting a SKS for plinking and am wondering what is the milsurp ammo of choice these days for them.

Odor is secondary, what source of ammo cycles and works the best in your run of the mill chinese SKS?

What are you guys getting?

I shot some of that Port. 308 ball last weekend, the smell was enough to make you puke!

The Czech 7,62 X 39 I got from Milarm shoots good and doesn't smell bad.

I shoot commercial ammo. Box of 50 cost me $20 at the gun show, and some non corrosive norinco. All 7.62x39 ammo was dirty but the norinco stuff was unbelivably filthy.

what about the surplus stuff like what is available at Marstar, CanadaAmmo, Districorp etc? Are there any to avoid?

I am leaning towards getting a case from CanadaAmmo (sponsor here from what I gather) but I want to make sure it will function properly in a Chinese SKS.

If you don't mind cleaning soon after getting home from the range the ammo CANAM sells works perfectly. On my 3rd case of the stuff {and second bottle of spray Windex} and it all go bang! The stuff is corrosive never noticed if it smells bad or not, accuracy wise I wouldn't want to be a coyote at 300 meters. Even with my bad eyes and iron sights it will shoot minute of coyote out to 300 meters.

my girlfriend is testament to the fact that I like rubbing my guns :D So cleaning is not a problem.

I am interested in the knowing what cycles well and what is not too hot for this action.

Just a note, i just talked with canadian ammo and they are currently out of stock of 7.62x39 czech ammo, and yes it is excelent ammo, not one miss fire out of all the 1000 is shot so far.

They are restocking it soon.

I never shot wolf , but I've blasted all the others .
never noticed a smell from any of them , might be oil or cosmo on the rifle making the smell .
It all goes bang and all is about as acurate as the next .
If the gun don't go bang the rifle needs some minor tlc , not the ammo .

Every kind of surplus I've ever run thru my SKS smells like my work boots :( Or a burning pile of tires with a few dead skunks thrown on top :( :( Or the inside of Wendy Cukier's ass :( :( :( They all stink!

Handy tip from another CGN member (can't remember who); if you roll in the spent cases after you're done shooting, you'll smell so bad your wife/girlfriend won't come anywhere near you, which means she can't ##### you out for spending all day at the range and not mowing the lawn or fixing the toilet or whatever :D

Wild West has Czech crates on for 180 plus tax. I think Ken bought all of CanAm's stock.

Best price I've found in Edmonton so far.

Now if i can only find some CHEAP 10mm, I'd be all set for the ZOMBIES!

I have been shooting the CANADA AMMO stuff. No issues, and I only clean my SKS when I feel like it, I went a month before cleaning it, no problems ( I do not recommend anyone do that though)

Shame, shame, shame ..........

You realize that you will certainly go blind if you don't clean your SKS after shooting with com-block ammo.

I put 60 rounds of the CANADA AMMO stuff thru my VZ-52/57 this afternoon. Just finished giving it a cleaning with U.S. mil-spec bore cleaner (the old type). The ammo was all sure fire and seemed to be pretty snappy. I planned to run some over the crono to see what sort of speed it makes but somehow it slipped my mind.

One of the other guys was running the same stuff thru his Norinco SKS with good results.
