what is this screw for on my Remington 550-1 ??

Hi all rimfire nutz,
Just got this Remington 550-1 from Tradex (was very good experiance as usual) was wondering what this bolt does??

That holds the deflector shield in place.

You mean a deflector shield that I don't have? So a scope can be mounted?
Cause when I take it out theres just the tapped hole thru to the action area.

That part is missing on your rifle, the correct name is "Deflector".

It does not appear that there are provisions to mount a scope. The receiver needs to be drilled and tapped for a scope base.

I would like to try a scope as it seems actually very accurate from what little I shot it.

On the newer Remington 550-1's you can mount a scope as they are grooved .
