What is this stock attachment?

if i had to wagger a guess id say its a built in rear rest.

That would be a Tikka rifle, with a Harris bipod and an Accushot Mono Pod.
The nicest part of this whole rig is the rings

ATRS got it on the head a harris bipod and accushot monopod. I tried the monopod out once on a AI rifle. It was not too bad. It looks best mounted on an McMillan A5 type stock where it folds into the bag cutout on the stock.

Are there better ones? Short of going to a proper bench/varminter type stock.

Not that I am aware of. The monopod is pretty good but I wouldn't get one as it is just added weight that I don't want to carry around.

I had a monopod on my rifle and found it was okay but actually I found a sandsock filled with polybeads more versatile.

Totally agree. I had one too, had to break position to adjust it, then getting back into position it would have shifted slightly, etc etc. Beanbag for teh w1n.
