What is this tube thing?

Anyone know what this tube thing is mounted to the side of my step father’s US 1917 Model Eddystone?

You are missing the special rings to go on the scope.

They were made in side mount and top mount forms. You have the side mount, Ganderite's is the top mount. I don't think they 're made anymore, so your best option would be to go onto fleabay and find a complete unit, and just use the upper half.

I've had a couple and don't really like them. When shooting rapid fire, my thumb would hit the scope ocular and knock the whole thing sideways.
