I have a plastic bottle of U.S. Mispec weapons oil that works great on my shotgun.

It is sweet smelling kind of off-white beige coloured creamy stuff.

It is remarkably similar to the commercial Fluid Film I also used. Now Fluid Film is lanolin-based. Is that weapons "oil" lanolin-based too?

The numbers and details have worn off the bottle. Got it at the surplus store on Front street in New West.

What you have is LSA: Lubricant, Semi-fluid, for Automatic weapons aka Lubricant, Small Arms. It is a soft consistency (hence the "semi-fluid" designation) lithium grease using a synthetic base oil.

LSA originally entered service in the 1960s along the with M16. It was replaced by CLP in order to eliminate separate cleaner and lubricant products in cleaning kits.

If I smells sweet and separates into white milky #### on the bottom if you let it sit, it would be breakfree clp.

LSA is fabulous stuff. Know a guy who kept 6 1919 BMG's running all day with one 4 oz. bottle. A little goes a very long way.

There a bunch of them that are cleared for use now, Frog Lube, Seal 1, and some others I don't have sitting in front of me right now. I usually come back form the SHOT Show with about 5 sample tubes with different names on them.

A sample tube of Frog Lube is enough material to completely do 3 Glock pistols and usually they sell for $1 if they aren't free.

It does that.

I have a bunch of Breakfree CLP.. I also think I have about 2 liters absorbed into my body from CLP'ing howitzer actions and cleaning several tonnes of small arms

Well, I'll have to get more if I can find any at the surplus store.

They didn't have the US Milspec bore cleaner though, I sure liked that stuff too. It helped me restore two "found in shed dead" rifles to shootable again.

What was that stuff? Brake cleaner? Lots of that on a bore brush sure cleaned out some dirty rusty bores for me.

Break Free CLP was bought by the 45 gallon drum by our forces. It was used for everything from the High Power 9MM to the 105MM cannon. The white stuff is Teflon that is ont used as a lubricant but as a drying agent. You have to shake the mil bottle to use it. It was the only CLP for many countries until other tried to copy it. I did a test of a bunch of CLP last year. The best was SLIP 2000 EWL50 with BreakFree CLP as #2. I did the milspec test for salt water and powder residue on 8 different products claiming CLP, plus another corrosion test after the powder test! The worst were the "all natural' such as "Frog Lube" !
