So, went to the range to try some loads with a new powder. I chalked up the first flyer to maybe being me. Then a flyer appeared on the next group and the next and the next. What could be causing this?
It was raining the whole time. No real change in conditions (10 deg C, raining, light wind). The dry targets were just up on the board protected by a 2x4.
46 grains of Varget is on the hot side for 168's and is a compressed load. 42 grains is the starting load so you should start testing from there. I also see you are jumping up .4 grains with each load, you might want to try .2 gr increments to find the sweet spot. Velocity does not always equal accuracy and each rifle/barrel is different.
You also do not mention what type of rest you are using during testing or if you were using a rear bag with it.
I have had grouping issues in the rain with 22-250 - I could see the odd vapor splash on the way to the target - one bullet would swing way out to nowhere....dunno....maybe try again when the air is less soggy?
