What is your favourite 22lr for plinking?

I’m looking at adding a 22LR to my collection and there are so many options it’s overwhelming. The ones im looking at so far:

• Semi-auto - GSG-16 9”
I like the GSG option in a shorter barrel since it looks tactical and has 22 round mags which look fun to practice reloads. Also, this model has a buffer tube which allows for Magpul stocks to be attached. I read that the GSG 16s may have reliability issues with FTF or bolt issues after a number of rounds.

• Bolt-action - CZ 457 American
My first choice for a bolt action because I want something with a classic premium wood look and something accurate.

• Pump-action - Henry Pump Action Octagon
I don’t know too much about this one but it looks very fun to shoot.

• Lever-action - Henry H001 Lever action
Apparently this lever action is so smooth and lever action looks super fun to shoot.

Any suggestions?
 
I'd go with the CZ. Dad has the henry and I'm not impressed at all. Action is rough compared to a winchester or remington.
Real fun is a winchester 61 or other older pump action.
CZ is excellent if your looking for a more accuruate type of rimfire.

Thank you so much for the quick reply! I'll keep an eye out for the Winchester 61 but they seem like they go for 1k+!

I like anything in a CZ from 452,453,455 and will even remiss selling my Sako Fin-Fire M84 even if they came with a polymer detachable magazine.
You can not go wrong with a CZ or a Sako if money is free to be spent.

Accurized 10/22. Volquartsen parts all through it. Ridiculously accurate and fun. Nice ragged hole at 25 yds through 10 shots quickly. Wife's gun though I get to use when I ask nicely.
 
Marlin 795 if you can find one. Second choice would be a Savage A22 with a 25 round Butler Creek mag. Can't go wrong with a 10/22 either if you prefer a rotary mag.

I have a GSG 16 - lots of fun and you can put a lot of rounds down range very quickly. The accuracy is OK. Stay away from the 110 round drum. Its a pain to load and you will get a few jambs. The takedown cant be rushed. There is a small spring that like to wiggle its way loose and fall out. If you get this gun there is an entire thread on it.

I also have a Tikka T1x which is a fantastic firearm. Its super accurate and with a nice scope you can get some really tight groupings.

I love my Henry lever. Lots of fun. I am not a fan of the sights so I put on a red dot. Again this is a fun plinker with OK accuracy.

I have shot my friends CZ 457 and it compares to the Tikka in accuracy and weight.

I would point you towards the CZ or Tikka as they are super accurate and its relaxing using a bolt gun. The GSG 16 is fun to blast away. It all depend on what you hope to accomplish.
 
If you can find one , the CZ512 is one to consider. I got one last fall and it’s probably the most reliable and accurate semi I’ve owned. Reliable as in zero failures to function and accurate almost to bolt action rifle. Very easy to clean and again if you can find them, 25 round mags are around and in my experience with the two I have feed perfectly.
 
Auto - 10/22 or vintage Browning. I have a little old one in .22 Short.

Bolt - BRNO 2E.

Pump - Winchester 61.

Lever - 9422 or 39A.

Single Shot - BSA Martini.
 
So If you can afford it get the GSG...i had one and its a hoot with a reddot. Get a good bolt gun Older remington (541t or 513) for the accurate plinking. and a 10-22 taketown cause you can trick it out to insanity with upgrade parts. For dessert something vintage like a nice pump, lever, thee winchester 63 is my favorite. I own alot of 22's and they get shot the most of all my firearms.
old steel is good steel. Eley ammo makes them all sing fyi

For general plinking my fav .22lr that I own in a Henry lever.
With a 16.25"bbl it's very light and compact. It gets fed whatever .22lr ammo is on sale and cycles a variety of HV, SV, quiets and shorts without issue.
 
Clanging steel my kids/dlask 10-22 is a ton of fun.
Off hand with irons my cz452 lux is top shelf.
Plus ammo last longer with the bolt gun lol
 
It all depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

Myself, I'm not really in to the GSG and that style.

Gopher patch with lots of gophers up close, I love my Remington 597.

Longer shots with accuracy, Savage MKII heavy barrel, maybe the Savage B22.
I also recently picked up the CZ 457 Varmint. That's what I take now instead of the Savage MKII.

I plan on shooting in the CPRS, maybe next year, so the CZ is a great base for that, as is the Tikka, and they are both fantastic plinking rifles as well.

The CZ can be had for a little over $600, synthetic/stainless, and go up from there depending on choice of barrel and stock.
