What is your go to cartridge for 1500+

Sierra 200gr MK (new gen)... around 2700fps

Jerry

Nice, one of the guys at the Pembi match this weekend was running Berger 200.20Xs in his 30-06. Kinda reminded me about how overlooked it is as a calibre since factory offerings are so anemic.

I went a different way with my ELR-ish guns. Have a 26" 7 SAUM I'll be starting load work up for with 180 ELDMs tomorrow and waiting on the scope, brass and bullets for my 29.5" .300 Norma mag. Hoping to push the Berger 220 LRHTs 3200fps or so :)

300 prc would be ideal, no components in canada

I originally planned on doing a PRC as it was kind of the "budget" way of getting into a .30cal long range setup as I figured I'd pick up an older R700 hunting rifle in 300WM and build off that. I had concerns about sourcing good brass and was ale to line up a great deal on a Stiller Tac 338 so I went the .300 Norma mag route instead.

fun combos... hope they work out for you.

The 30-06 is grossly underrated. Does a very nice job without need for big amounts of components and costs.... and 12 rds in a mag doesn't hurt either

Another that might be worth considering is the 284 Win: There is a reason that is so prevalent in F-Class.

Moderate recoil and great BC on the 180-195gr class of bullet make for an easy rifle to drive that can really reach at reasonable cost. And there exists lots of knowledge base to get it up and running well.

If you think that cost per round on a 338 is high (chuckle) you should see what CT/BMG variants cost to feed (presuming the OIC will be overturned, sigh, I really like my 416 Barrett). They are impressively giggle-worthy, but they are not for the faint of pocketbook.

Yes that is one of the reason people pursue the 300 Norma.
300 PRC components are limited in good times and unobtainum now. But everyone likes the bolt face as any 300wm can be converted to 300PRC. People are trying to avoid the belt of the 300WM

300 Norma; Since the US govt has selected the Norma as their MK 22ASR rifle system components will start showing up in numbers. mainly brass from different manufactures. 300 Norma factory ammo 2950fps and handloading can get you north of 3100

Here is an alternative I built a 300WSM on a long action, the advantage of the long action is the ability to throat long giving you the largest case capacity and still be able to use long bullets like the Berger 215's in a mag system... with the 215's you can get them running 2850fps and with some work 2950 without loosening primer pockets. you still have the .532 bolt face if you wanted to move to 300PRC later. You do have to use 338 Lapua mags for the 300WSM case.

Cheers

I am leaning towards the 300 win mag in a savage 110 elite. It comes factory with a 30 inch tube and an mdt acc stock. Odds are good it will be something else in the next year but with a quick look at the ballistics app and a guess on velocity I can run north of the transonic barrier for almost 2000 yards. I know most guys hate savage but they always shoot for me

Enjoy

P.S.

Took awhile to track this down... 300 win mag out to 2,000. Mitch260 (Fitzpatrick) works and shoots for applied ballistics
