I am absolutely new to online purchasing of second hand guns. I have purchased many items used from the internet, but never a pistol or rifle. When a friend told me about this site I thought it was a good idea, since I have received great deals in purchasing used items before. However I have noticed that many of the ads are asking close to brand new price for used guns. My way of thinking has always been that only items that are becoming scarcer, such as land or houses, due to increasing population and a finite surface area of the globe, increase in value. Collectible firearms also would fall into this category. However, most items decrease the moment you take them out of the store or off the lot, due to the fact that an individual does not have the large overhead that a store owner does, therefore cannot demand the markup. In the past I have only ever purchased or sold from a store or a friend or family member, and at nowhere near retail price. However, I have noticed that with many of the guns for sale here, the price is very close to that of my local retailer. With my local retailer I do not have the issues or concerns I would possibly have dealing with a person that I am unfamiliar with, who also lives half way across the country. I pay my money I get my product. To my way of thinking all of these issues are factors that diminish the value of the transaction. I cannot inspect or handle the product, I cannot verify the seller claims, such as virtually new only say 250 rounds through is factual, there is an inherent risk when dealing with someone over the internet, I may not be able to return an item if it is defective, I am not purchasing a brand new item, I cannot test it for fit or function, etc. So my question is; the price that is being proposed by the seller, is it a in my wildest fantasy I would like to get price, or is it reasonable to expect to pay 85-95% of full retail. What percentage are you generally willing to pay for the average gun, not a collectors piece
