the reason fairy has come and kicked me - ive decided against the shorty Siaga AK in .308win ...

so im now looking between a standard 16" barrell AK in either .223 or 7.62Ruski ..
or
a bolt action

its going to be for plinking and goat shooting, im tossing up accuracy/range or rapid firing ..

what kind of groups would you guys expect from your VZ's with 7.62russian ?
or .223 .. if anyone has a 16" restriced - what kind of groups do you get ?

i know they are on a slightly different platform but its the closest thing.
ive found mixed reports on the net . and the guy at the gun store said one of his buddys fired a few sub MOA groups with his .223 16" using handloads .. i dont trust him though because hes trying to sell me something and makes commission :D

I expect 3" out of the VZ, which is good because that it was I usually get. IIRC a Norinco 223 AK used to shoot around 3" as well, but that was a long time ago (last shot one when they were non-restricted!).

You'd probably get a better answer re. the AK on a US forum. Just sayin'

As far as accuracy, I can't say I've noticed much of a difference between My VZ58s and the AK-47, expect a little under 3MOA.

Now, if you're talking "rapid" or full-auto fire:dancingbanana:, the AK is a little more controllable due to it's weight.

I'm not sure what ammo is readily available in NZ, but why not look into a 5.45 AK? Cheap ammo and fun to shoot. I assume long range isn't a necessity for goat killing, 5.45 should fit the bill nicely.

5.45 isnt an option here..

and about the goat shooting here..
you walk through the bush, or up some stupidly steep hill until you find a goat or mob of goats.. and then start squeezing that trigger :D

if you have a suppressor on your weapon you can drop the Billy and then the nanny and kid ( if there is one ) will just kinda stand there

That sounds like daydreams I have had, but there were random mobs of zombies......

And suppressors, man you are killing us over on this side of the pond....

Speaking for Canadian VZ/CZ users, I don't know if most of us would be able to give you a reasonable comparison against our VZs. I think most of us are using Czech surplus which tends to be quite variable. It's hard to say then what the round is truly capable of.

As said you'll probably get better answers out of some American AK afficionados using commercial or hand-loaded ammo.
