Hi Guys

I happened upon these ducks the other day here in TO ...any idea wtf they are? ....not referring to the mallards in the back ground

still they do look tastey....

Thanks

Are those not Common Merganser's....on second thought, maybe not....

Legs are near the center of the body....a puddle duck of some type....but they dont have the Iridescent Speculum....but it's hard to tell for sure from that picture

Some kind of a cross ?

They all look domestic to me, including the so called Mallards in the back ground.

Yeah my best guess was that some muscovy duck decided to have some wild ### with a mallard (litteraly)..but I didnt think that many people had domestic ducks in TO well Mississauga actually

They are domestic Rowan ducks (sp?) crossed with mallard... My step grandfather has some Rowan ducks on his farm that look almost exactly like that.

deathjunky and rmkm70 have it right...they're domesticXmallard crosses.

And they're delicious. Don't ask how I know.

Domestic mallards crossed with the white muscovy duck.
Just because the question came from Ontario is no reason to suggest inbreeding . . .

One does not have to be a veterinarian surgeon to recognize horse manure!

Right on all counts!:D

MallardsXdomestic! Shoot em!

Mallard x Domestic Hybrid ... likely a Pekin or Swedish Blue variety from
the colouring & head characteristics (as opposed to a Mallard x Muscovy or Mallard x Rouen pairing)

Mallards are known to frequently cross with several species of domestic as well as wild Blackducks, Mergansers, Pintails & others.
