What kind of lead??

Lead wheel weights. Not all of 'em are lead these days. Read a book about casting first.
Powder coat is just paint. Doesn't replace the lead.

Powder coating replaces the bullet lube and protects the lead from the hot gasses of the burning gun powder which allows you to use a softer alloy.

Although it will work just fine, that is an awful waste of tin. I remember reading a story of how nice the bullets looked that were made out of Babbitt. how well they shot and how well they held together, but what a waste.

if its all you got, its all you got. Myself i would hang on to it until I found some pure to mix it with to get a lead to tin ratio of 20:1.

Read the casting book mentioned. Without powder coating, you should (need) to have the right hardness or softness for the bullet to properly seal in the barrel to get your max performance. All different hardness's will go down the barrel, some real good, some just ok. Way too soft and you get leading and burn through, way too hard and you loose FPS. That casting book tells it all and is a super reference for everyone. Powder coating does change things because it protects the lead from burning through, but not all people powder coat.

A super site for some great reading.

Anyone who casts should read this book. Down load it's free!

Even for experienced casters, there is much to be learned here and a lot of interesting history. Very worthwhile reading.
