Got this rifle in the mail today from a EE board purchase. It is a nearly unmarked Mauser in 8mm, Action cycles well with snap caps. The stock on it is excellent quality hardwood with a really nice steel buttplate that fits well in the shoulder. Also has as ?Czech? sight cover. Is this a Late 1944 (later? has braze welds) K98 refurb from either the Czech Republic? or a Yugo that never got around to having a crest mounted? Or something else. It seems like a really nice rifle. What is is?

Looks like Czech post-war rework of Kar98k. If not sight protector could also have been Belgium, they were sanitizing German mausers for commercial sales. You might want to remove wood to see hidden markings. Markings on bolt if any also would help.

I have tried like crazy, rubbed finger with gun oil. held to light, held to black light to see if i could read the inscription on the side. The weight and balance of this rifle is the best of the 15 mixed surplus I have.
