Hi guys, i found another mosin!

it looks like a 91/30. metric rear sight. normal russian 'sks' type of front sight. hex receiver. has tula 'arrow in the star' on the receiver, which was grounded off 1/4 of it (???) below the star marked '1931'. matching receiver, floor and butt plate. non-matching bolt. bore is dark and rifling is starting to worn. stock is laminated and has the typical 'leather-loop-through' sling swivels.

what is this? another captured? how much is worth?

1) Finnish M91
All matching S/N on bolt and receiver. No other S/N found.
NO IMPORTS MARK! :D
the bore is bright and shiny.
any idea how much it's worth?

2) Finnish 91/30
matching S/N on receiver and bolt. doesn't appear to be forced match.
non-matching floor plant and butt plant S/N (struck-off).
NO IMPORTS MARK! YEAH!!!

the bore appears to be bright, even though there are pittings here and there. rifling appears to be strong. i brought it to the range today and it shoots accurately. please see the forth picture for the bore picture. is it still collectible? if not, i might consider drill and tap it for a PU scope mount...

A very collectible Finn marked one! The Puolustuslaitos Finnish Army mark was used for 2 months only, in 1942.

majormarine,
If you drill holes in that rifle, the Milsurp Police will come to your house and beat you with a dead fish. I hope you're kidding.

There's plenty of good $150-200 plain jane MN's available if you wish to create a sniper "replica". Your rifle is worth more than that regardless of how it shoots.

roger that, stevo!

i currently own 3 mosins (one is a M44), and yes, my original intention was to create a sniper "replica" out of either of my M91 or this finn captured 91/30.

i have updated this thread with my M44, but yet i will have to take some pics of my M91. the M91 has a prestine bore and i suspect it is also a collectible?

i guess i need to find another 91/30 shooter!

Talk to Jean at P&S. He's got lots of vanilla 1942-1944 era Mosin 91/30's which is what you're looking forr. They are import marked but who cares if you're going to cover it with a PU mount?

M-91

Majormarine, please post pics of your M-91 here; ANY M-91 is collectible nowadays. Include close-ups of the barrel bands, cartouches on the stock and, if possible, pics of the underside of the rear receiver tang.
What is fascinating is the history of the piece and M-91s are like old manuscripts waiting to be deciphered.
The Finn ones are particularly interesting in that, given the fact they are mostly Russian or foreign-contracted ones bought from allies or captured during the many "contacts" with the Russian neighbor.
Most of them have seen the elephant and their many variations and odd markings make them very collectible.
Besides, the Finn-modified ones are often great shooters.
Cheers!:)
PP.

It being matching and not import marked, I'd say the M44 is worth more than the $150 import marked ones you see around. Maybe $200 or so? It is nice though, and if wartime made (1945 or earlier) it would have been worth more still IMHO.

Putting a PU mount on the m91 would be plain wrong and ruining the 91/30 would be stupid. Get a crappy refurb for that!

Your m44 looks to be not refurbed, not sure if most post war rifles are or not but its interesting to see a russian rifle that isnt douced in shellac and it does make it more valuable.

Prior to Finnish service, that rifle would have been shellac'd as well. The finns tended to refinish the stocks in the field with a weird mix of oil and reindeer tallow (no, I'm not making this up!!!).

The wartime Russian shellac though, was a dewaxed garnet, not the dewaxed amber the refurbs generally have.
