What kind of photo for PAL/RPAL application?

I believe that passport photos are too big, as my father got passport photos, and he had to cut them down to size.

If you go into any local photo shop that takes photo's, just ask for firearms liscence sized photos. They know the specific size and will take them for you.

The instructions with the application form describe the photo. For my renewal, I printed off a digital that my wife took, and cropped it to spec. No problems.

Hi,
Any photo that meets these requirements will do (it does not need to be a professional photo):
• Show a full frontal view of your head and shoulders.
• Use plan background, without shadows.
• No hats or sunglasses.
• Have been taken in the last 12 months.
• Must be 45mm x 57mm and the head must be at least 30mm high.
• Must be an original not taken out of an existing photo.
• Digital photos are acceptable.
• Image must be cut to size prior to sending.
These are the stipulations laid out by the firearms center.

Sincerely,

Silvercore Training

you can use a Polaroid or a digital picture will work. the government blew it all to pieces when they sent students out one summer to sucker people in to getting POL's and they used cameras and took some terrible shots. i have seen one with a guy's hat on plus dark glasses. i have seen area firearm officers use a Polaroid as well.

when you get you PAL application there should be a photo information sheet in it that will tell you the size.

I've gotten all my photos done at Costco - showed them the form and they knew exactly what to do.

You can take the picture yourself and everything. But this sometimes comes in handy as official identification, so why not spend the $5-$10 for a decent photo?

I got an extra picture made when I had my passport photo taken for just this reason. The extra kick is that you can't smile in passport photos anymore so my picture looks quite evil, kind of like a mug shot.

wife and i did the pictures with a digital camera , with us against the door , she downloaded it and then adjusted size to fit requirements then printed it

Thanks! For some reason my application said there should be an insert with the information, but it wasn't there (or I couldn't find it). I'll go to Walmart and get it done.

Now to wrestle my dh into signing the paperwork.....
