I picked up this custom 308, mauser action, parker hale barrel and it has an accessory groove on the bottom of the stock, any comments on what it is? 10.5 mm across opening, 12mm in the bottom of thre groove, V-shaped, not square slotted like UIT anschutz or Freeland. This rifle came from Europe, just trying to adapt to PIC, any ideas? Has a wide spot in the middle of the rail to drop accessories in.

Do you have chatgp? So I copy pasted your picture and question gave me a long answer. It won’t let me copy and paste it into here. I tried. I even asked it. It gave it to me in another format. It still didn’t work said it’s cause I’m using an iPhone, but I think you will find the answer you’re looking for if you do what I did. it pretty much confirmed your thoughts and gave suggestions for adapting.

Fair answer... but some people prefer to engage in conversation from others who can provide practical help and suggestions from experience.

It's called a UIT/Anschutz Rail. It is primarily used in European competitive shooting for attaching accessories such as slings, hand stops, and bipods. It's common in biathlon equipment from Europe (thus the Anschutz rail name).

It accepts T-slot nuts or specialized adapters that slide along the rail and lock into position to allow for modifying the accessory during competition, or to suit a specific shooter without having to drill a stock for anchors, posts, rails or such.

You can Google for adapters, including from our own CGN sponsor: https://nordicmarksman.com/spartan-classic-uit-anschutz-rail-adapter/

I did search chatgpt but the rail doesn't look like either of these, can't find anything that looks like it. From wiki, the anshutz on the left and freeland on the right, both with very square cuts. I found some info on 11mm dovetail, just not sure if that is a possibility

My artistic attempt to capture the shape of it. I recognize that a square edged slide could engage in that groove, I just want to be sure i get the right adapter.

Was reading that, at one time, a number of manufacturers had their own proprietary groove for accessories, so I will prob build my own or just drill it and mount a pic over it, thanks all

Is only the front dovetailed?

What I don't get is, why the bottom of the rail contoured?

With the exception of the wide spot for the accessory to be inserted, it is female dovetail the entire length, the contour maybe for the locking mechanism to engage, not sure.

Well that cut out normally to insert accessories. My 64S doesn't have a open front, but has a cut out, so I can install UIT accessories.

Most forearm rails are flat on the bottom. So being contoured is weird.

You can make your own T nuts. By hammering 5/16 T nut tabs flat and then grinding them to fit in the slot.

Check your "B" dimension:
Rifle-Stock-Rail-Sections.jpg

It is not uncommon for Walthers to have the inside of the UIT rail to be curved like this or even more:

Another photo of one: https://www.rimfirecentral.com/attachments/walther-uit-rail-jpg.359211/

Only way to be sure is measure the dimension of "B".

B dimension is 12.3mm or so, hard to get exact, the calipers are cut so they don't get in the groove perfectly. 12.3 is 0.48" at the deepest part of the angled groove.
