If it still locks up exceptionally well then its a Baikal. I have a double barrel baikal and the markings are similar. Unfortunately I can't see past the blur on the first picture.
 
Yup, deffinately a single shot baikal, the stocks have a large bolt up the rear of the stock to secure it. With some time and woodworking skills i bet you could create quite a nice stock for it. The gun ususally runs about $125-150 in good condition, hopefully you didnt pay too much for that even though they are workhorses for a good starter single shot.
 
That's a Soviet era IJ-18, Baikal. I was reading somewhere that some guys are using the old USSR Baikals as a basis for customizing. Kind of makes sense, good quality guns, original design, inexpensive, and no collector value so one doesn't have to feel guilty when making some changes.
 
The old Baikal wasn't a bad shotgun for the money, chrome lined bores too. I owned two and the crossbolt safety was defective on both and had to be repaired. Both were purchased brand new back in the early 80's. You might want to verify your safety works properly.
 
My suggestion would be try to make your own stock. That gun will kick like a mule with its original stock. From what I've seen in pictures is the stock stock is straighter back then other singles that don't kick as bad.
 
Try contacting Martin at Corwin Arms... they carry Baikal and he has a tendency to have random spare parts for Soviet era rifles, might even have something for the Soviet era shotguns, you never know.
 
another dealer who might have a stock is trade ex at the top of the page . they are site sponsors and have a large amount of shotguns on hand and sell parts .
