What kind of SKS is this?

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if this is the kind of SKS that has the pinned barrel problem or if it looks like a different kind. Also, is this the "jungle" stock? Is this a military or commercial version - like one of the commercial versions with a synthetic stock and the bayonet ground off?





 
Well, you've got yourself a jungled stock there. She looks commercial to me what with the bayonet lug having been ground off.

I think www.simonov.net can help you out in determining if it's a threaded/pinned abortion. I'm not sure if that's the one.
 
Looks like the regular kind to me, with the spike bayonet removed.
I just can't make out if that stock is red plastic or the usual orange shellacked wood but it looks a lot like wood; the plastic one is more brick-red.
However, the handguard looks another color.:confused:
As for the screwed vs. pinned, the only way to know is to have a good look at the barrel root/receiver junction. You need a better close-up pic.

it is definately the "jungle stock". Whether or not these jungle stocks were ever used by the military is a question I cannot answer, however they are definately original and not aftermarkets. I would assume that the chinese when they were refurbing these for sale as milsurp probably replaced some crappy wood stocks.

I like them because they are easy to paint :)

what is the factory code?

as for pinned vs not, it is hard to tell without a closeup of where the barrel meets the receiver. It would be easier too if it were out of the wood/fiberglass. :p
 
well, I think I see wrench grooves on the barrel, but the pins (if there are some) are easier to see when the action is out of the stock.

as for the length, it looks to me like a regular length sks? :redface:
 
For markings, there are three Chinese characters with a triangular insignia to the left of it on the receiver. Serial no. is 163**** and it says SKS7.62X39 LARANU INC. RONKONKOMA NY MADE IN CHINA

The triangular insignia is a bit faded, tiny, and scrawly, though and is hard to read.
