What kind of target sight previously on this Long Branch no4 mk1*?

I received a couple rifles from Corwin today and this particular 1944 Long Branch has a threaded hole in the receiver as well as a "5G" mark in a square. I have read that "5G" can specify a 5 groove barrel. And this rifle appears to have a 5 groove barrel. And its a very nice bore.
Anyway, these rifles have probably been through the arsenal at least once and although the stock is numbered there is no way to be certain its original. Would the original stock have been cut out at the back to fit the target sight? Or is there a sight available that does not require cutting on the No4 mk1* but does need a threaded hole? This rifle probably has some neat history.

Here's a picture to show you the two screws and spring you need to properly install one. The spring presses against the safety.

The rear trigger guard screw would be specific to either the No1 Or No4 and would need to be longer than a regular screw to make up for the thickness of the sight mount base. Most of the wrist screws are for the No1 safety screw but I have seen some that are BA tapped perhaps if the smith did not have a Enfield tap.

Likely somebody had one of the older sights and didn't want to spring for a PH5C and made the most of what he had. Probably he shaved down the wood at the rear as well to get it to fit - those 5A's don't take well to wartime wood which wasn't closely profiled to templates and tends to overhang the metal considerably.

The PH5A sight was the first sight to be approved for the No 4 rifle in DCRA competition as the PH No 4 and the PH5C weren't invented yet. I actually used to have a DCRA rifle in 7.62x51 that was fitted with a 5A sight.

Not sure who would have engraved those 5G's?

As Superbee said, have seen some competition rifles with markings like that.

I wonder what the source of this group of LB's was?

70L series you guys know what they are. If you do keep it to yourself, just add few items properly and they will pass even the best experts

If you are saying that someone drilled and tapped the receiver, then made some wear marks where the target sight was mounted, and then aged these marks, only to sell it as the same price as the other rifles?
5G means just means 5 groove from what I have read.

One more question about this rifle. It has a number on the stock that looks like a partial serial. It reads "C132".
And idea what this number was for?
The safety lever is also held on with a much thinner piece than any of my other rifles.
