so i want to get into long range shooting (under 600 yards)and im not sure what it is i want to get im thinking a remengton 700 aac in 308cal but not sure if the rifle is as good as what some people are saying or if there is a diffrent rifle on the market within the same decent price range or not

another thing is 308 the way to go or would 223 be better for long range shot

I wouldn't worry about this or that specific model. There are a number of rifles that would do what you want to do. Consider a good used rifle, as well. The only advantage that I can see to the AAC is the already threaded nuzzle which makes installing a brake that much easier.
Also, consider a .223 with a 1in 9 or faster twist.

I would not consider .223 for 600 yds bullets to lite and affected by cross wind
much more than .30 cal.

A .223 will do anything the .308 can so far as paper punching so long a you use the heavier bullets and a faster twist 1-9, plus ammo is cheaper.

For 600m I would definatly look into 223. Just for the fact that the ammo is alot cheaper, factory or reloaded. I would also advie looking for used rifles already set up. I have really nice set up rifles in good stocks, bedded, with glass for around $1500. It sounds like alot compared to the $850. But after you put a base, rings, and glass on, and tax, you are going to over that price anyway.

.308W is a very good choice.

If you reload, .223 can be an even better choice (but only if you reload).

Remington 700 is OK. Savage also makes some good rifles too.

Im still playing around with my newest addition until my reload components arrive(hope today). I have a 10 FCP-K .223 and was shooting day before yesterday at 400yds. My furtherest so far with it.

It is priced at <850.00 has a muzzle break(threaded barrel)accustock/trigger and was shooting 8 rounds(2 mags) of Factory Federal 69 gr Sierra Matchking in 3.25" @that distance. That was with bipod, truck tailgate, no rear bag and a 5 gallon bucket. I would bet others can get better than that. Im not a precision competitor.

There are a number of the "out of the box rifles" that shoot well for the money.
They probably won't shoot much under 3/4" but that's still 4 1/2"@ 600yds if the load stays consistent.

If you are not planning on handloading I would lean towards a .308, but I think you should plan on handloading if yu want to do any kind of precision shooting.

My choice would be the Savage 10 PC!

Savage 10 Precision Carbine in .223 or .308 = $767 @ Ellwood Epps

As mentioned above the FCPK is a good option as well, but I am not a fan of fluting, and like the PC better.

Savage 10 FCPk(Epps Only has .223) = $807 @ Ellwood Epps

My choice would be a Tikka T3 varmint or a Rem 700 AAC or SPS ... The Tikka will be a bit more accurate out of the box but cost a bit more money too, the remington has more options for upgrades..

If you can find a blued tikka varmint it will come in at or around your budget and is guaranteed MOA or better. The stainless is my preference but is higher than you want to spend.
