What is the template?
What do shooters want to see?
Are there some hiding in the closet stage designers out there?.....
What would make IPSC better in Ontario?
I truely want to see some better matches....what can be done to improve?

CoF with options, more than one way to solve. Less reliance on 8 rounds at every position or making max round count for short medium or long courses. Scenario based stages not just generic heres some walls and targets. Use of props especially for start positions instead of just hand at side starts. Greater variety of distances for targets. More swingers and drop turners, clam shells, max traps etc.

Well noted! I believe the freestyle portion has left ipsc in ontario!

Oh it's "freestyle"...there just happens to be only one solution.
Actually there are some clubs that do a good job at making stages with some options. I can recall some at Wentworth, EESA, Aurora and others that weren't too bad.

Is it somewhat surprising IPSC hasn't redesigned they way they do 3 gun in light of its popularity in the US?

Apples and oranges me thinks...

IPSC and what we shoot al la 3Gun Nation are two completely different animals...

For sure.....that's why they may want to consider a redesign.

####, even IDPA went into 3 gun, even though it makes no ####ing sense whatsoever.

Hey I'm not disagreeing with Pat! Everything he said should be put into effect everywhere that does IPSC. Some clubs out here do a really good job of this, others not so much. I have to admit I like a bit if bling on a stage. Nice props, not 15yr old shot to #### walls, or crappy limp target stands. I feel presentation is very important, not as important as well laid out stages, but right up there.

For me props should be in relation to the level of match, level I I'm not expecting too much, maybe just something to start with, pop can, pizza box, ammo can, mock rifle, broom, whatever. But should be easy to set up and tear down and good stage design. Level II should be a good stage but a little more effort put in to adding some character to the match. Additional decoration would be nice, Ron Malloy does a good job with this. Level III should be full on dressed up stages. Probably nobody was around or remembers but the old days at Sharon with the castle, the sewer, the western props, etc. Sault Ste Marie with the town of Rock Ridge, the farm, the crack house, the pond with the dock and sailboat etc. That's the stuff that makes matches memorable.

I have a personal hate on for #### looking stages...walls all shot to crap.....mismatched #### thrown together..drives me nuts.
####....I can't be the only guy that sees things could be better! But I also see that others should contribute!!!!! Can't be too much too ask???

you guys put on excellent matches out at ESSA.

I think some people are fed up with IPSC in general. Come on its become very sterile the past few years.

Maybe there is just a natural shift of what people are looking for.

3 gun is catching on and if you push it away you will end up a dinosaur.

Exactly, the lack of stage names (stage 1 sucks as a title, Rosa's Patio, Long Island Railroad, etc are stage names!) mesh walls (nice because they are easy to set up but boring), lack of props, and no stage dressing coupled with the same target arrays at every port makes for a real boring match.

This is why I get frustrated when guys complain about round count, it gets match directors thinking that all shooter care about is high round counts so anything they throw up is good as long as they have xx number of rounds in the match.
Years ago Brockville did a speed shoot match, it was an entire match of speed shoots and no one cared about round count it was different and fun. Put on fun stages and the shooters won't care how many rounds they shot.

I haven't shot for a few years now, kids have gotten to the age where they need more attention. So take my ramblings for what they are worth.

^^^The above post is exactly what has taken the fun out of IPSC. The last really fun matches I attended were at the end of the 90's. They had lots of props and variety. Remember the ferris wheel in Brandon? How about the helicopter fuselage at the "predator" stage in Halifax? I could go on but instead I'll skip ahead to the last match I shot. Vancouver, what ? , 4 years ago? While I'm sure it was technically challenging, off the top of my head I can't remember a single stage from that match. That is how sterile the matches have become, IMO.

I return you now to your regularly scheduled programming.
