What makes a "proffesional Hunter"

A professional hunter makes his living hunting.

Not many of them around here. Actually, damn few.

The marketers attach words like "Pro" and "Alaskan Guide" and "Tactical" to get idiots to buy it.

My favorite is "guide gun".........ever seen a REAL guides gun?????? hardly the shiny fancy thing they advertise.

Cabelas is the worst for that stuff.......Alaskan guide shirts, guide underwear, guide coffee mug.........F8ck it is just ridiculous.

Any guy who tells you to buy "this or that" because that is what the pro's use is full of it...........good gear comes from use and testing and quality components, not someone else's "say so".........

But advertising works. So they do it. And they pay to get it done. Hell, if someone wanted to pay me to do a commercial for a product I use, Id do it too......

a little late but what i can say is prostaff came here to be guided by guide ...

we re not pro in the camp just hunting guides ...

most of the time i ll never use what they promote even paid ...

seen some with ass frozen with so much good clothes this fall ...!!!!

anyway anybody that is a good seller can say is a pro then he ll show his knowledge and way to learn to others ...!!!

"pro staff", "Professional Hunter", or whatever you want to call them in North America are nothing more than Shills for the Manufacturers. Do you think it is any cooincidence that they are sponsored by the companies that they praise? Hey nothing wrong with it but lets call it what it is, they are simply advertising for a manufacturer, whether it is in a magazine article, hunting video or show.

Yeah but if someone wanted to pay me 6 figures to hunt across the world and use their gear for free, I'd be their shill.

Shockey is the prime example of a professional hunter. He hunts and makes a lot of money from it. He's a good show man and by most accounts runs good quality outfitting businesses. Don't know him personally but everything I've read indicates that he's worked hard to get where he is.

I would probably say that most "pro staff" or TV hunters are probably hard workers too. They may not be the best hunters out there but they've put together a package that entertains and makes them money.

tell him to stop watching so much Wildtv. Over half the shows are sponsered by Thompson Center, so they use thoughs guns. Including Jim Shockey, He only uses T/C and makes everyone he guides for use his gun.

it makes me laugh though when shockey is in africa hunting with a muzzleloader and he is saying "I trust my life to my thompson center, and you should too"

thats funny because it looks to me like you are trusting your life to the 2 guys on each side of you with BIG bore bolt guns levelled at the charging cape buffalo you just shot with that TC pro hunter..... haha

I was at Wholesale Sports and looking at a new rifle and a fellow came up to me somewhat disgusted I was buying a Remington SPS 30-06 and said I need a T/C product. He went on to tell me that is what all the pro's use.

The guy who told you that is numbskull idiot.

How do obtain this so called title of "Pro Hunter" I was at Wholesale Sports and looking at a new rifle and a fellow came up to me somewhat disgusted I was buying a Remington SPS 30-06 and said I need a T/C product. He went on to tell me that is what all the pro's use.

This fellow is single-minded and intolerant.....just like anyone who would dismiss his fellow law-abiding handgun shooters, as a waste of time as well.

I hunt for a living, I don't have a TV show and it is really far from glamorous. I also don't consider myself better at it than anyone else even though it has been a full time job for over 10 years. My success comes from the vast amount of time I spend doing it, not my exceptional skill.
A friend once told me, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

His motivation in pushing you towards a T/C product is profit margin. This usually translates into commission/pay check. Next month he would tell you something else. I know, as I am a sales rep.

So true, a salesman will ty to sell you the product that gives him the best margin. A good salesman will sell you what you need and bank on your return sales. There aren't many good salesmen in the world.

The "pro" in pro staff does not stand for professional and the two terms are most definitely not interchangable. The pro in pro staff stands for promotional so one would hope they'd be promoting certain products! Your confusion is common but pro staff are rarely professional hunters so they are pretty much calling it what it is.....:confused:

Very true and I can't imagine that many would try to tell you they are professional hunters.......they make a living in the entertainment business.....not from hunting. I don't know any tv people that get paid to hunt......many, however, get paid to produce television programs about hunting.
