What makes Night Vision Expensive?

Think of the price as being a cost of owner ship the lower generation NVD are cheap and the quality is like that of Lada HA HA the higher the generation number the more technologically improved it is and the quailty of the Viewing is improved the GenII+ have built in IR illuminators this helps when seeing indoors with out any ambient lights they are also smaller .Don'rt like the prices simply don't buy them.

There's quite abit of technology involved as well for manufacture and the acceptance rates/quality control issues were quite high.

I'd love to get a scope with cam outlet. :D

The ones with IR illumination...wouldn't that make you stand out like a beacon to anyone else with night vision too?

Or even just a camcorder. I remember my Sony camcorder picked up ir really well.
I've never actually tried NVG so maybe I'm off base here??

No on the North American built units it is located in the objective lense and is not detectable with other NVD's

The Research and Development costs for new technologies, and continuing research on current technologies.

Combined with the fewer units sold compared to an equivilent commercial product.

What is the most recent generation of night vision that we can legally possess?

The best NV available is considered Gen 3. This would include all the new developments such as autogating, filmless, etc. But these too are still Gen 3.

Here in Canada you can legally possess anything that your bank account can afford:D

Exporting out of the US is a different matter all together.
