Recently bought a nicer Protektor rear bag to replace my current one. Unfortunately, it comes in unfilled, so I need something to fill them in.

Richard suggested bead blasting material (have no idea where to get). Besides that, what other alternatives do I have, and where does one get stuff like these?

I use bean bag filler... Hobby/craft stores sell it.

Isn't bean bag filler rather light? I would think using heavier material is better?

Minute Rice. Forms well, moisture not a problem.

I'll just grab some from the kitchen, seeing as I'm Chinese ;)

Go to your pet's r us and get some sand/gravel for a fish tank. Nice and light but works great. I use it in all of my bags.

That might work. Sand is pretty packable. Still, I'm wondering if there are heavier stuff out there for more stability.

I am using poly beads which seem to work great - not real heavy, will not take on moisture and cradles stock nicely.

Corn cob husk media, usually for casing polishers.

Actually I have a whole tub of that at home, used for tumbling my brass. That would work?

you're chinese and have minute rice in the kitchen? what a disgrace.
Even I who's an halfbreed asian would never allow minute rice in my home!!!

LOL I didn't mean minute rice, of course I don't have that stuff. It's real white rice or bust for us :D

See if there is a Foundry in your area, they will usually have a bead blasting/tumbling machine, they use it to clean up castings.....this uses a good heavy shot that you can use to fill up your bag with

The heavier the better, I've tried the lighter things like poly fill stuff and it's all garbage IMO. Ideally you would want a lead filled bottom with only sand in the ears, however in benchrest, adding lead weight to your rear bag is against the rules. There is an interesting article on 6mmBR.com about sand for bags.

That's the stuff I wanted to get in the first place. Where do they sell them?

I got mine at a local auto bodyshop, where they use the media to sandblast prior to re-painting. I just scooped up a load of used media (free), washed and dried it thoroughly and poured it into the bags. If you want to pay, they would undoubtedly would sell you a few pounds.
