Hi guys, got this mauser out of this old guys closet, had it for ever I guess. It looks like it has been cleansed on the top with maker and year ground off. It does have this on the side of the reciever - "AE 850" plus 850 stamped on the various metal pcs but interestingly it has a swastika emblem in at least 4 places too but it looks reversed from what you would normally see. Can anyone tell me what exactly this is?? Please go to www.photobucket.com/onebigdog1

Don't know what it is but a friend of mine has one exactly like it. Scrubbed k98 with a few dirty birds remaining but stamped AE850 in several places. His is 8mm calibre and has been pretty roughly used with dark bore. What kind of shape is yours in? My friend's has a finger groove forend as well unlike a German 98k. The "backward looking" swastikas ring a bell, somewhere I read an article claiming this was a Chinese marking. Maybe Chinese contract FN Mausers scrubbed of markings elsewhere?

Agreed - Chinese. These run the gamut from quite well made on German-supplied actions, to terribly made POS from some remote village workshop.

Thanks for that! Not to computer literate. GREAT to know what it is now! Had such a hard time figuring it out. Does anyone know what bayonet will fit this, my K98 bayonet doesn't, will a vz 24 fit?
