What Model ???

I saw Marlin Lever Rifle the other nite that I cannot find any info on.!!!:
Top strap has Marlin Safety stamped on it,has 38 W on barrel,Semi buckhorn sights,octogon barrel,and the serial number is in the 76000 range.Patented Oct 11,1887,April 2 1889 on barrel.Other than that the butt plate has the same ser no as on the action. Any info would be appreciated !!!

Sounds like a Model 1889. It was the first side-eject Marlin, hence the "Marlin Safety" designation, according to Wikpedia. 38W is the .38 WCF, aka .38-40.

I plugged the serial number 76222 into the database at Savage99.com and it says the rifle was made about 1892.

Forgot to mention, in case you weren't aware, .38-40 ammo is still made by Winchester, $62 bucks a box of 50 at Wholesale Sports.
