Maybe not the wrong forum with this many views already!

Stoeger, Baikal or the cheap turkish models from marstar?

All I want it for is being reliable in the marsh and slop when hunting ducks and geese.

I like my three inch, three shot kents for ducks, and bb/bbb for geese.

What is going to be reliable and around the $500 mark?

Really got the itch for an over under for the fall.

O/u

You might not have a taste for a Over under after few hunting trips with heavy waterfowl loads. Most O/U have a pretty good kick. Especially the cheaper models that have little to no recoil management built into the gun.
I hunt over my dog with my Citori and with light shooting 2.75” field loads it is a pleasure. When it comes to 3” steel waterfowl loads I will stick with the auto.
It is my humble opinion, that most of the bargain basement O/Us are a waste of money. They kick like an army mule and open and close like a rusty barn door. The balance is terrible and fit up of wood to metal poor at best.
There are some mid priced range O/Us that sell for around a grand that are pretty nice guns
The new Mossberg O/U is a nice gun, well balanced and nice fit up. I recently shot a TOZ O/U in the Canvasback model I was so impressed I am thinking of one in 20 gauge
You get what you pay for in O/Us. But if I could not afford a mid price range one I would save my dollars till I could
Just my .02 cents worth
:D

Agree with Kenny. Maybe you can find a nice 2nd hand Citori or Beretta arround 1000-1200 range. But make sure it comes with inter-changable choke.

Good luck!

I also agree if it is a O/U you really want. In fact they do come up now and again in the exchange forum. Now if was me and all I wanted it for was hunting I would buy a Benelli but that is just me.

I own a $450 Stoeger Condor I O/U.
Shoots well, recoil is not an issue. Has served me well. Will take up to 3". Have NOT tried "00" as yet. Why pay more if you don't have to?

+1 on the Stoeger. I bought a Competition version for $675.00. Came with 2 of each choke, adjustable comb, vented barrel, selective triger, auto ejectors....etc....etc. I have no idea what would be best for hunting but since this is the "Skeet/Trap/Sporting Clay" forum I think you be very happy with both the price and performance of a Stoeger.

ciao for now

I guess it is a matter of what you will settle for. My guns although are not top of the line they are of good quality. After shooting these for many years, going to a poorly balanced face kicked is enough to make you trade it in on a set of golf clubs.
Recently I talked with a well respected friend of mine, who has been in the gun smith and retail business for some 30 years.
I asked him about the bargain basement O/U shot guns out there and his replied was this.
“When I sell a Browning or Beretta, or even a Ruger they go out the door and very seldom come back. When I sell a bottom line O/U up to 40 % of them come back with issues that range from not firing on both barrels, too hard to open and close, trigger is sticky, selector switch is unreliable, etc. etc. Some people just want to deal it because it kicks too much.
I f you want to know the answer to a question ask the people who know. Go to a sporting clay, or skeet range and talk to some of the guys and girls that are some of the best wing shots around. These people only accept the best.

I have a stoeger o/u delux that I bought 2 years ago and I shot about 2000 shots before it started giving me problemes ex. Fired 2 shots at once (and its a single trigger) and some times the top barrel wont shoot ect... I dont recomend it. Now I leave it at home and I keep on using my Beretta semi-auto witch is very reliable even after shooting more than 6000 shots. :shotgun:

I have a Condor Supreme, and I quite like this gun. But I will admit I'm turning soft and find it kicks quite a bit, even with lite loads.

There's lot's of inexpensive stuff out there that will go bang.

Reliability is quite another thing.

Buying hay for your livestock, is like buying a lot of other things in life.
Good, fresh, quality feed hay comes at a price. Stuff that's been through
the animal once is a lot cheaper. You do tend to get what you pay for.
:D

Yildez does not fall under the category of "Used Hay"
Out of all the lower priced guns mentioned I will guarantee you it will be the best buy.
In fact if you went to the Yildez ME SPECIAL the price goes up to $1450 + Tax.

There is a Yildez for sale in the Buy and sell part of this board... Trust me you will not be disappointed.
After a year of shooting I had mine ripped apart by my gunsmith.. He was having a tough time figuring out if it was new or used.

I went and checked out a few things out this weekend. I had a Huglu CZ in my hands which seemed a little cheap.

A Mossberg which seemed ok and a condor, but the wood on the condor did not fit all that well.

I might try to get a look at a yildiz first hand and also would like to handle one of the new remington SPR-310 as these are made by Baikal.

Do the Yildez have mid-rib beads or just one sight?

Anyone know when the remington SPR-310s might be in canada?

How about the CZ O/U.
The Woodcock or Canvasback.

I believe these are around $1,000+ and CZ make some fine firearms (pistols and long guns).

Yes CZ makes some fine firearms. But they do not make the Woodcock or Canvasback, These are made by Huglo and marketed by CZ.

But when you got serious about your shooting you got yourself a good used citori:D

True.. But the Yildez comes out hunting with me. The Yildez would not have lasted at the trap club. I shot over 10,000 rounds this past year. A hunting gun would never see that much shooting in 50 years.
I love my little Yildez. I was thinking of selling it and actually had it sold 2 times.. Sure am glad both deals fell apart.

Jamie

BTW.. I am thinking it is time for a upgrade on the Citori. Its done me well over the past year, but I think a adjustable stock would hurt

maple sea suggested a used citori or beretta over one of these cheapies. I agree. I would pay a little more and buy a gun that will last whatever you put through it. Not Yildez, and certainly not Baikal!

Your citori started out with lots of rounds and after your 10,000 it has lot lots of life left.

I'll add another voice to this chorus. Lots of guys show up at the club with a new (insert name of low priced gun here), sometimes they brag about how much they saved. The guys with the Citoris and Berettas just smile politely.

There is low price and there is value. They aren't often the same thing.
