So 8 months ago I decided I ABSOLUTLY needed an AR.....
I watched all the self help vids at Brownelles . com so I now know how to completely take apart and re-build or build an AR, I also know what tools I would need to buy or get to accomplish this. I also now know what this part and that part are. I really found that 8 hrs was well spent...... Even if my wife spent the next 2 days complaining about how I ignored her and hid in the basement for a weekend.
So about 4 months ago I finally decided on a S&W M&P 15..... mostly because the local g-monger 'made an offer I couldn't refuse'..... But I knew what I really wanted was a shortie.
Of course 8 days after I bought my AR a used Dlask with a 11.5" barrel came in on consignment, before I could get the $$$ together someone else bought it. I would go to the store and just 'fondle' the Dlask and think... 'yup, I need a shortie'.
So I finally get my Tax return, I decide I am going to go shopping for an upper to go on my S&W lower, Personally I find the Smith lower to be pretty good...... Although I wouldn't know the difference anyway!
I want to build one but I don't want to spring for all the tools and stuff that I would need. I figgure I'm gonna buy a complete upper, what the heck, I can always change stuff up later if I decide I want to.
I am looking for an Upper in 10.5" to 11.5". Free float handguard with quad rails, Low profile gas block. I don't need a bolt & chargeing handle as I can just take the parts out of my S&W upper.
I wind up at Quester, after touring 5 or 6 online stores. I've looked at the Stags, the RRA's everything is just looking like it needs too much work to make it what I want. Add to that I am going to get the retailer to 'assemble' the upper for me (so I don't have the chance to screw it up). I find 2 uppers at questar, one needs some work to make what I want, the other is exactly what I want.... but more than I want to spend.
By this point I have already purchased a Baby Eagle, a Colt 1911, agreed to buy a STI 1911 in 9mm and a couple of other firearms related bits and pieces. SO I have already spent all but 1K fo my tax return...... I feel a little silly about that I was looking for an AR upper not all this other stuff!
This is the one I wanted to have the parts installed on. https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1089&bc=no
Which looks like an excellent upper btw, just not exactly what I am looking for. I almost bought this upper once I saw it and the price! But I was strong and kept looking.
This is the one I think is the Bee's Knees!

Unfortuantly once I shell out for the parts I want them to install on the Questar upper, the cost of parts alone is going to be more than the one that is exactly 'what I want'.....
What do you do when you find what you've been looking for and then you find out you can't afford it.......
You call you credit card company and get a credit increase
I can't wait untill I get my new upper! I ordered the LMT.
So now I need to start thinking about some bolt on's..... I'm thinking about folding front & rear sights, maybe a red dot of some kind...... But I am completely ignorant of what I should put on the beautiful rail on the top of that LMT........
And I'm trying to keep it under $500...... untill I get the CC paid off anyway!
Any Ideas?
Cheers!
