this is supposed to be a photo of an 870 shell lifter, clearly in a discussion about 870s.
what is the forked rail underneath it? an aftermarket mod or is that actually a photo of an 11-87/1100 mislabelled and posted in an 870 thread?

Looks like the extension for the Remington 1100 shell lifter.Think is called a speed latch or something along that line.Looked in my paper work. Extended carrier release is what I wrote down. Remington part # is F300902

its amusing that someone purporting to be an expert in a comparison of the 500/590 vs 870 actually posted a pic of the 1100 shell lifter

while were at it, this does not look like any 870 extractor ive ever seen:
