I aplogize if this has been covered before.

What kind of paint do you use?

All spray-on, or do you hand paint at all?

Do you sand or otherwise prepare the barrel and stock prior to painting?

If I was doing a wood stock and forend for example, should I sand the wood?

Primer paint first?

Krylon from CTC is durable enough, and easy to use. Not as hard as duracoat, but can easily resprayed as necessary. Lots of guys use it (including me). If the gun has nice wood, I wouldn't paint the wood likely, maybe just the metal. The idea with camo is to break up the outline, more than about colour, depending, of course, on what you're hunting...;)

I'm more interested in something to prevent rust than the camoflage aspect.

Black would be fine if it's smooth, stays on and prevents rust. Just don't want to paint on Tremclad.

I have to agree with the Krylon. I have used it and it is cheap and durable. I have three bottle of DuraKote that I have yet to use as well. Can't be bothered to mix it up and spray it. :)
