What part of the ar-15 is registered as restricted?

Hello all, I recently picked up my first ar-15 rifle and while cleaning it a question came to my mind:
What part of this rifle is actually classified as "restricted?" Since AR-15's are the barbie dolls of guns and so extensively customizable it's hard to say the "whole rifle is restricted." I'm guessing it is the lower but could not find a reasonable article online about it. If you know a concrete answer please leave a reply.
 
as crazy as it sounds I have a solid piece of aluminum, no additional parts or anything that move on it and it has to be have an external locking device and be locked in a container because it is considered a restricted firearm.
