I have just got back into reloading and only reload for my .25-06, but now I have a new .243 and only have H4831 on hand. I was going to probably use 85 grain Game King bullets for coyotes and whitetails, and wanted to know what powder to try. I had a .243 when I was in my 20's and have been sorry ever since for selling it, so the Savage combo at $350 was too good to pass up. By the way it shoots the Hornady custom 100g btsp factory load real well.

For White Tails use a premium 100 Grain bullet.
The 85 grain Game King is not meant for deer.
Send me your email address and I will send you a file received from other CGN'ers.

I shot 5 deer last year with the 85 game king over varget. The bullet did'nt hold up very well, with only one of the 5 exiting. Very accurate, but I won't use them on deer again. I'm using 90 gr ballistic tips this year(yes, I know they probably won't be much tougher)
I used to use 100 gr interlocks when I lived in the UK, but my .243 seems to loke lighter bullets now that I'm not allowed to have a suppressor!
Varget is my 1st choice, Rel 19 is my 2nd.

I hunted deer in central Pennsylvania with a .243, .270, 30-06 and 30-30, I have always hunted with Hornady interlock bullets. All the interlock bullets I dug up after shooting into the burm retained over 50% of their original weight. The "interlock" works and works well, Sierras and other brands all would suck the lead core from the jacket and at times disintegrate.

The only bullets I have shot that compared to the Hornady interlock was the Nosler partition. ;)

My "rain gun" was an old 03-A3 springfield that I loaded with 170 grain 30-30 bullets at 25-2600 fps. This baby 30-30 magnum and the Hornady bullet never let me down and would put deer "down" real quick.

I would try those bullets and powder before experimenting with anything else. H4831 is a good powder for the .243 . Those GK's shoold be good on Lung Shots .
