what press to start with for multiple calibres?

I load my precision ammo on a 550b fwiw, and have compared ammo made on both the 550 and stuff that was made on my rockchucker.....While I agree you can always find a use for the rockchucker, you can get away with a 550 as a first press....

Get a single stage for your first press, ESPECIALLY if you're completely new to the concept of reloading. It's not rocket science, but a single stage will give you much finer control over each reloading stage, and probably a better understanding of the various steps.

Also a single stage is your best bet if you plan on loading for a precision bolt gun (as opposed to higher volume handgun or 'tactical' rifles)

this is one of the best pieces of advice you can get..;)learn all the different stages of reloading, get to understand what is being done and why..
and neaver feel like any question you have to ask for help is a dumb one

550

Don't bother with a single stage if you plan on loading any volume, go right to a 550. i started reloading on one 20+ years ago and have no need for a single stage. if you want to learn to reload using a single stage format eg size/deprime, seat/crimp then just use the different stations on a proggressive and don't rotate/index the shell plate. in my experience the auto index is overrated, with manual index you only index once you feel everything worked as it should, and if you need to go back a step eg forgot to put the bullet in, then you just adress that issue and don't worry about backing everything up as it indexed when the handle dropped/rose. just my opinion ymmv:D

I use a Lee Turret Press (semi-progressive) for 6 pistol calibers

It will do rifle , but not with the auto-indexing feature. This means you have
to use the press as a single stage with the benefits of a single setup for the dies.

The new Lee Classic Turret is an upgrade to the Turret and will do rifle with auto-indexing.

Price was an issue with me so thats why I went with the less expensive Lee

But after about 5000 rds of reloads , it still works like a champ.
